      <image:title>Projects - How it works</image:title>
<image:caption>How it works: a single controller unit is wired to multiple underground transducers, each affixed to the roots of a tree. The controller is designed to be a self-powered, self- contained plug-and-play module, adaptable to any tree. We use a solar panel to charge a battery; computation and wireless network connectivity is delivered by an embedded computer. Audio signals for each tree are generated on the embedded computer and output through a USB sound card and a stereo audio amplifier. Weatherproof connectors on the control module lead to buried speaker cables, which run underground to the transducers. The transducers are cast in silicone rubber to protect them from the elements.</image:caption>

<image:title>Projects - Electronic Muscle Stimulation for Native Tactile Feedback</image:title>
<image:caption>In order to generate novel tactile sensations that does not exist in real life, we designed a series of EMS signals by varying combinations of pulse amplitude, pulse width, frequency of the current and the location of the electrodes. The intensity is calibrated per-user with a potentiometer and remains fixed once calibrated. Throughout the experience, various EMS sensations are triggered by the pre-defined hand gestures, timeline events and the interactions with virtual objects. The audience can feel the branches sprouting, touching the leaves and interacting with birds, caterpillars, etc.</image:caption>

<image:caption>On May 2nd, 2019 the work took a round trip to the sub-orbital space on-board a Blue Origin New Shepard flight NS11. The sculpture activated during lift-off, continued its growth and occupation of space, and rest during the return to Earth. Each of its weightless movements is carefully calculated on paper and modeled in simulation software, as there can never be a test on Earth. Similarly in our life and sciences, predictions are only a means to collect plausible realities.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Founders - Gershon Dublon</image:title>
<image:caption>Gershon is an artist, electrical engineer and recent Ph.D. graduate from the MIT Media Lab Responsive Environments group. His background in sensor technologies and human-computer interaction led to his dissertation work, called Sensor(y) Landscapes, in which he introduces attention- and context-aware devices and environments that make networks of distributed sensors feel like prosthetic extensions of perception. Gershon’s art practice explores similar themes of transduction, perception, and attention, blurring digital and physical worlds to create moments of intimate connection between participants and their im/mediate surroundings. A strong focus on natural environments and the ephemerality of perceptual presence runs through all his work. Gershon’s writings, performances, talks, and projects have appeared at academic conferences including IEEE Sensors, NIME, PSi, and CHI, have been covered by the NYT, Wired, BBC, and NHK, have been seen on numerous stages including TEDx and WE Summit, and have been exhibited internationally in museums and festivals including the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Ars Electronica (Linz) and RIDM (Montreal). Before receiving his doctoral degree, Gershon obtained a master's in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT and a B.S.E.E. from Yale, where he contributed to research in sensor fusion.</image:caption>
